Failed seasonal rain in early 2015, followed by an El Niño induced drought and floods since mid-2015 have exacerbated food insecurity and malnutrition in the Horn of Africa.
The current El Niño event is expected to continue into the first quarter of 2016 and could become even more powerful than the strongest levels on record.
By the end of the year or early 2016, projections show, up to 22 million people in Ethiopia, South Sudan, Kenya, Sudan, Somalia, in Ugandans and Djibouti, may need food aid.
