Gambella region is a federal state of Ethiopia dominated by Nuer and Anuak groups.
The region is inhabited by 422,002 people (2016 est) and covers 29,782.82 km2 (11,499.21 sq mi) area.
Its capital is Gambella city with a population of 70,000.
At regional level, the ethno-linguistic composition of the region was 47% Nuer, 22% Anuak, 8.4% Amhara, 5% Kafficho and 4.8% Oromo, 4% Mezhenger, 2.3% Shakicho, 1.4% Kambaata and 1.3% Tigrayans, according to the 2007 Census.
In the regional capital, the Anuak made up roughly half of the town’s population, followed by the Oromo (20%), the Amhara (10%), the Nuer (8%), and the Tigrayans (6%).
