US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will travel to the Eastern African nations, Zambia, Tanzania and Ethiopia in mid-June, according to the Press Statement by the State Department on Tuesday, May 31.
Clinton will come to Africa following her visit to U.A.E on June 9 to attend a meeting of the Libya Contact Group on June 9.
Secretary Clinton will commence her African travel from Lusaka, Zambia, on June 10, in time for the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) Ministerial Forum, which will be attended by representatives from 37 different countries. According to the Statement, Clinton will also meet with Zambian President Rupiah Banda and will ‘participate in events to highlight U.S. government initiatives to improve the lives of the Zambian people.’
Following that Mrs. Clinton will travel to Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, to meet with Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete. She intends to ‘highlight our successful bilateral engagement including a host of programs including Feed the Future (FTF)’, according to the Statement.
Clinton’s last stop would be Addis Ababa Ethiopia where she plans to hold talks with Prime Minister Meles Zenawi and AU Chairperson Jean Ping. Concerning her stay in Addis, the Statement states:
In Ethiopia, Secretary Clinton will focus on regional issues, visiting the African Union (AU) headquarters and meeting with AU Chairperson Jean Ping, in addition to bilateral meetings. She will also meet with civil society to draw attention to their innovative and enterprising work.
