Hailemariam Desalegn

Hailemariam Desalegn, born July 19, 1965, is the Prime Minister of Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. He previously served as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2010 to 2012.

Hailemariam ascended to the chairmanship of the ruling party EPRDF and to the Premiership, in September and August 2012, respectively, following the passing of Prime Minister Meles Zenawi. He began his second term as Prime Minister in September 2015.

Hailemariam received a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Addis Ababa University and second degree in sanitation engineering from the Tampere University of Technology in Finland.

Hailemariam is married to Roman Tesfaye and father of three.
