Infographic | In Addis Ababa, EPRDF got 2/3rd of the Popular Votes

The Ethiopian ruling party, EPRDF, amassed all the legislative seats whose results are announced so far.

Last Wednesday, the National Electoral Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) announced provisional seats for 80% of the Federal and State legislative seats that were up for grab in the May 24 general elections.

The ruling party EPRDF won all the legislative seats so far. (See detailed breakdown here)

However, we know Ethiopia’s electoral system is First Past The Post system and the winner do not necessarily obtain all the votes cast in each electoral district.

So, you may wonder how many of the votes cast went to EPRDF?

The chart below shows the breakdown of the votes cast in Addis Ababa. (Data from The Reporter)

The top three were:

EPRDF – 64.4%
Semayawi (Blue) party – 15.6%
MEDREK – 12.6%
