• I totally share “Agazian's” idea with a particular emphasis on the sovereignty of Ethiopia, its water and any other related property rights of the country regarding this renaissance dam envisioned by our late great leader, Meles Zenawi.

• Think the US had a hand in this change of heart? While cooperation is the best scenario in some respects, this is the domain and property of Ethiopia alone. Let's hope there's zero operational control ceded to the Egyptians as that would certainly be foolhardy.

• Let’s think about it this way for a second. What if Egyptians and/or Sudanese say, we pay 2 million dollars for construction cost now and Ethiopia agrees to sell us 1500 MW electric power for the next 50 years, which guarantees them for a 1500 MW for for just $26,666 per MW per year. This is how a modern day business going. This is, for example, what the Southwest Airlines did to secure its fuel supply for the next 35 years, and this is what they call it invest in the future. It is a win to Ethiopia if it can be wisely executed, and of course a definite win to Egypt and Sudan too. And that way the toxic diasporas will have no room to shout around bond selling arenas and the pressure on the pockets of Civil Servants will be minimized.

    • Daniell, how about ' a quota of about 15 billion cubic meter' for Ethiopia...... i think is prudent and will go a long way in getting our legitimate right to our our resources. Don't forget that the Baro- Akobo and Atbara water basins originate in Ethiopia independent of the Blue Nile and are major contributors to the lot in Aswan. They along with the water stored there should suffice for us to fill the Dam asap

• the Grand renaissance dam is ours . it's only ethiopian dam . it's ethiopian peoples dam what the fuck are the egyptians trying to do? we accept that we have to cooperate on the nile river for win-win policy but owning the dam by both is not going to work.i think the egyptians are out of their mind. the dam is only ours!!!!!!!!!!!!

• I guess this was one of our visionary leader's suggestion almost 19 months ago and I'm glad that Egyptians are now coming to buy the idea. The truth of the matter is that Ethiopia does not have to bear all the cost for the Sudan and Egypt will ultimately benefit. We are holding most the silt back and they are going to enjoy a more regulated flow throughout the year. They have to pay for it. Well, I also strongly believe that our Government has a well detailed plan and critically scrutinized legal document in place to protect sovereignty of the country, its water rights and any appurtenances laid on its land related to the dam, before entering into any tripartite actions be it financial, technical or any other contracts with these countries. As we all know, from its inception the plan includes Sudan and Egypt as a potential buyers of the power generated. It would be more protective if they start believing to have stakes and benefits out of it than a catastrophe they have been envisioning for millennia. But again, everything has to be carefully designed with zero tolerance to interference in the sovereignty of the country, its water rights and any appurtenances thereof!!!
