Tripartite experts committee convenes to assess Ethiopia’s Millennium Dam
Tripartite committees of members from Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia convened here on 24/12/2011 to look into the expected effects of the construction of Ethiopia’s Renaissance Dam on Down stream states, Egypt and Sudan.
The meeting came in light of the agreement signed here on November 29 between Egypt’s Irrigation and Water Resources Minister Hisham Qandil, Ethiopian Water and Energy Minister Alemayehu Tegenu and Sudanese Irrigation and Water Minister Kamal Ali Mohammed.
Under the deal, the committee will group six experts, two from each country, plus four foreign experts.
Egypt’s Ambassador to Ethiopia Mohamed Fathi said that the three-day meeting is considered an activation of the pact signed between the three countries to discuss Ethiopia’s proposed Renaissance Dam.
The move is crucial in light of cooperation maintained by the three countries, he added.
