East African Volcanic Ash Cloud [simulations for Thursday]

A Nabro volcano erupted in Eritrea on Sunday, June 12 mid-night local Time, as reported earlier. The eruption is still on-going and appears stronger from June 15th 09 UTC(12 AM Local time) but mainly producing SO2, according to Meteo-France, the French weather service.

Meteo-France is responsible for southern Europe and African operations of VAAC (Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre) which has nine centers around the globe.

Thus, Meteo-France issued eight modeled charts, posted below, as Volcanic Ash Guidance for Aviation purposes. The following images simulate the concentration of the ash, from the eruption of Nabro volcano, for June 16, 2011:

  • Image 1.1 to 1.3 indicate the expected ash concentration up to Flight level 20,000 feet ( Flight level 6000 m).
  • Image 2.1 and 2.2 indicate the estimations for  Flight level 20,000 to 35,000 feet (or, approx., Flight level 6,000 to 10,000 meters).
  • Image 3.1 to 3.3 are for elevations from Flight level 35,000 to 55,000 feet (or, approx., Flight level 10,000 to 17,000 meters).
